Originally from the Magic City, Birmingham, Alabama, Anthony L. Williams was destined to be a star. Known for his distinctive vocal range and grand personality to match, he was favored to be a singing sensation. As a child, he nurtured a hidden desire for fashion in the same place he demanded the spotlight, church. Inspired by the Sunday's Best of whom he considered the most glamorous women in his life, Anthony developed a curiosity which blossomed into a passion for design. Anthony then began creating and designing ensembles for his friends, from which he gained confidence and a love for flair and extraordinary design.
Self taught, and a natural at draping, Anthony was determined to master his skill, attending and completing a Degree of Apparel and Textile Design at the University of Alabama. There Anthony was guided and mentored toward success, premiering his first official line as a polished designer.
Moving to Atlanta, Georgia, his career took a giant leap when he was hired at one of the world’s premiere luxury retailers as an Image Consultant. From that time to the present, he has built upon his success to open more doors to further achievements, giving back to the industry wherever he can.
Anthony's personal design aesthetic focuses on sophisticated looks. He loves the vintage look, and draws from a heavy East Asian influence. His zeal for design, which he considers his art, has allowed him to dress international celebrities, and to do preproduction film work, dressing many personalities and dignitaries who work in the artistic fields from opera to mainstream.
Anthony gained notoriety when he was chosen as one of the designers for Season 7 of Project Runway. Anthony’s design’s made him a fan-favorite and his outgoing and jovial personality made him the break-out star of the season. During the course of the show, Anthony won two important challenges. The first being the Marie Claire Magazine challenge; his dress was chosen to be worn by Heidi Klum on the cover of the
magazine and included a three-page spread which featured images of Anthony working on the winning design.
The second big win came during the Red Carpet Challenge. Anthony, along with fellow
designer, Emilio Sosa, was again chosen as the winner. His dress was selected by Jessica Alba as her personal favorite, and she will be wearing the beautiful black and white gown on a red carpet in the near future.
Since the finale of Project Runway, Anthony has been busy designing and creating his brand. Anthony does a video blog for Lifetime Television’s “Drop Dead Diva” series. He has appeared at Neiman Marcus to share a few pieces of his collection with fans and just recently enjoyed Couture and Cocktails with over 300 fans at the W hotel in Buckhead, where he was named “Style Ambassador.” He continues to design apparel for both television and movie personalities and serves as Fashion consultant for the VH1 pilot series Single Ladies, which will air this fall. He has been selected as costume designer for an animated series which will debut this Holiday season, is very excited about the opportunity to design a dress for a leading character and will be traveling to the red carpet movie premier which will be held in the Philippines. He will also be doing a voice over for one of the characters in the movie. He served as host of the Fashion Show for the 4th Annual Little Rock Film Festival in Little Rock Arkansas.
During the height of this past 2010 prom season, he could be seen offering weekly fashion advice and styling tips on Prom Girl’s video blogs. Anthony continues to inspire many hopeful artists and talented individuals who are trying to navigate their way into this industry by providing encouragement and advice to those whom he comes into contact with. Anthony has been recently asked to design the gown for the winner of
the Miss USA pageant 2010. The winner will be wearing his gown while competing for Miss Universe. In May of 2010, he was honored by Bauder College in Atlanta Georgia during a Black Tie Design Show and Portfolio Exposition event for his achievements in Fashion thus far and will receive the Fashion Icon Awards in July 2010 presented by Atlanta International Fashion Week.
Today, Anthony’s life has evolved into motivational speaker, designer and entrepreneur who is learning to adjust and enjoy his life and continue to prepare for his future with many new and exciting opportunities on the horizon. Over the next nine months, he will be busy designing and creating a collection for a major National event that will debut in March 2011 that will unequivocally gain him exposure and launch his career to new and exciting heights he has always dreamed of.
